Birtley Golf Club
2010 Junior Captain- Jonathan Carver
Vice Captain - Harry Carvey
- Here's
to great 2010 season, lets hope we can equal our achievements of last season. I'm looking
forward to a few more of the younger juniors progress in getting their
handicaps and joining the great team spirit we have in the Junior section
here at Birtley GC.
- 6/3/10
We have been drawn against Heworth at home in the 5 Man KO (to be played by
12th May) and Hobson away in the Foursomes (to be played by the 17th June).
I'll let you know when the exact dates are confirmed.
- I've
arranged for a friendly team match against the Gents team for Tuesday 11th
May. Team to be announced nearer the time.
- Well
done to James, Harry & Ryan, their strong win's against their opponents from
Heworth in the 5 Man KO saw us through to the next round of the competition.
the 3-0 lead meant that Jonny & Ben didn't need to finish their games. We
have Seaham at home in the next round.
- The
Foursomes KO v Hobson (away) has been arranged for Monday 10th May. I'm sure
Jonny & James will do us proud.
- James &
Jonny romped to a 5&3 win over Hobson in the County Foursomes KO avoiding
the embarrassment of being beaten by two girls. Well done lads.
- The
Friendly match versus the Gents team ended in a very creditable 5-5 draw.
- 5 Man KO
- Seaham have informed us that they are unable to raise a team for this
fixture and therefore have given us the match. we are now through to the
last 16 in both the 5 Man KO and the Foursomes KO.
-
Congratulations should be given to Mark, Dean & Callum for putting in a
battling performance in the PD Cowell Trophy held this year at Seaham in
VERY wet conditions. None of our team or the lads they were playing with had
played the course before, therefore no help or guidance were available. Mark
played well despite having already played 18 holes in the rain at Birtley
that morning & Callum came in a respectable 4 under his handicap.
- 20.6.10
- The draw has been made for the next round of the County KO competitions,
we have a tough away draw at Seaton Carew in the 5 Man and Ramside at home
in the Foursomes.
- Two
great results this week, James, Harry, Ben, Dean & Mark pulled off a
brilliant win away at Seaton Carew in the 5 Man KO. Mark went to the second
extra hole to win the match and came of the course at 9.45pm in almost
darkness. James and Harry also won a hard fought match v Ramside in the
Foursomes KO, winning eventually 3&1. we are now through to the quarter
finals in both competitions.
- Junior
Captains day has now been booked for Wednesday 18th August at Bamburgh.
- We Are
The Champions ! well done to all the team players, reserves and caddies, we
have won the North East League.
- Well
done to Jonathan Carver who came 3rd in the Intercounties Strokeplay
Competition held here at Birtley last weekend. Jonny had a great round of 72
gross & only came 3rd on the count back & only one shot behind the winner.
- We have
been drawn against Boldon at home in the 5 man KO and Garesfield away in the
Foursomes KO. Dates yet to be finalised. Note this is the Quarter Final
round
-
Unfortunately James & Jonny lost the Foursomes KO away at Garesfield, losing
down the last. Given that Garesfield are the defending Champions for this
competition & to take them to the last hole on their home course, shows that
James & Jonny played very well and almost pulled off a great result.
-
Unfortunately our team of James, Ben, Jonny, Ryan & Mark lost the semi final
of the 5 Man KO at South Moor GC. It was a close match until the final few
holes where games just slipped away from our lads.
- A great
day was had by all at Junior Captains day at Bamburgh GC, the weather stayed
fine until the last hole for the last group. Mark & Nathan recorded great
scores on a tricky course which neither of them had played before, Mark just
winning the day by one point.
- The
League Triangular play off is to be between Birtley, Eaglescliffe and Durham
City. Dates are being arranged at the moment, watch the jnr notice board for
news.
- Well
done to Ryan, Ben, Dean & Aidan who finished second in the North East League
Field Day at Wearside GC on Bank Holiday Monday. They finished with a team
score of 222 & only beaten by Wearside C who came in with a score of 207 on
their home course.
